TOUR: The Q by Amy Tintera

The Q by Amy Tintera

Genre: Young Adult Science Fiction

Publishing Date: November 8, 2022

Synopsis:
In this action-packed adventure from a New York Times bestselling author, two teenagers from opposite worlds must fight their way through a vast walled quarantine zone in a dystopian America toward their only chance for survival.
Seventeen-year-old Maisie Rojas has spent her entire life in the Q—a post-pandemic quarantine zone that was once Austin, Texas. Born and raised behind the high security walls that sealed their fate, she’s now a trusted lieutenant for one of the territory’s controlling families.
Lennon Pierce, the charismatic son of a US presidential candidate, has just been kidnapped by his father’s enemies and dropped out of a plane into the Q with nothing but a parachute strapped to his back. Lennon is given a temporary antidote to the disease and crucial intel for his father, but Maisie must get him out of the zone within forty-eight hours–or he will be permanently infected and forced to remain.
With unrest brewing both inside and outside the Q, reaching the exit is a daunting and dangerous task. But if Maisie and Lennon fail, it could mean disaster for the entire quarantine zone and its inhabitants—and could cost Lennon his life.
Strap in for breakneck action and compelling characters in this timely, nonstop thriller.

MY REVIEW

Most of the first books that made me fall in love with reading were dystopians and The Q appealed to my nostalgic feelings toward that whole genre. While it has dystopian vibes, being set inside a futuristic quarantine zone with rival gangs controlling order, it stays grounded in that the outside world remains somewhat normal, with presidential elections and decisive opinion on how to handle the so-called crisis.
Throughout the book we get two POVs: Maisie Rojas and Lennon Pierce. Maisie is one of the few surviving First Five of Generation Q, meaning she was born inside the Q in the first five years. The Q is a quarantine zone, meant to be temporary fix to stop a virus from spreading to the rest of the world that ended up becoming permanent. Inside, the north and south sectors are divided in control between tot Lopez and Spencer families. Maisie is the daughter of the late 2nd in command of the Lopez zone.
Lennon Pierce is the son of Senator Pierce, the current Democratic nominee for the presidential election who supports removing the walls and finding a solution to the Q. A few days before the election, Lennon is kidnapped and (literally) dropped inside the Q where tensions are already high. The only way for him to leave without being infected means a 72 hour window for him to make it to the north gate, on the opposite side of the Q, in enemy territory.
I loved this one! It was so fast-paced and full of constant action. I enjoyed how the virus/quarantine was discussed but not the forefront of the story. I enjoyed the cast of characters that Tintera created. Even though they were young people in big positions, it felt realistic and believable considering the set up fo the Q. Maisie is a girl boss for sure and I thought she was strong lead for this story. I was happy to see her leadership evolve and develop throughout. The dialogue was funny and smart, keeping the overall tone light and well-balanced with the more serious aspects. If you are looking for a thrilling book full of political intrigue, smart characters, humur, and the perfect balance of sci-fi/dystopian vibes, I highly recommend you check out the Q!

REVIEW: Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce

🇬🇧REVIEW: Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce ☕️ What it’s about:       Ellie is publicly rejected by her crush in the most mortifying way, complete with a viral internet video and everything. She jumps at the chance to study abroad in England and far away from her humiliation. The program is dominated by honors students, which Ellie is not, however she is willing to take on the extra work for the chance to explore the places of her dreams and hopefully meet a new British boy to put her old crush to shame. Ellie meets Will, perfect and posh, and she vows to keep him interested in her. She makes a deal with her classmate Dev, who knows a lot about Will’s interests, to tutor her in exchange for helping him gain her own roommates attention. Ellie is whisked into an abroad romance of her dreams, surrounded by beautiful cities and history, but is that really solving her problems? And is the perfect British boyfriend really perfect for her?  —— My review:  This one had a slow start for

Book Haul!

I have collected quite a few books recently and have been dying to share!    In The Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken - This book is the third and final book in the Darkest Minds trilogy. It follows Ruby and the friends she makes along her journey. The children in the world have been affected by a disease giving them one of the powers below, which are categorized by colors.       1. Greens- Intellengence       2. Blues- telekinesis       3. Yellows- electricity       4. Oranges- mind control       5. Reds- fire             The unaffected adults have put the kids in basically what are concentration camps. Ruby escapes with the help of a friendly adult and meets people along the way of trying to find the cure and free the camps. She faces plenty of difficulties along the way. It has one of the best romances I've ever read, and is full of action. This trilogy is definitely one of my favorites of all time.  Legend by Marie Lu - This is the firs
