After a painful break-up in university, Bethany Clarke has sworn off love to focus on her career. From her humble South Side beginnings to her position as an architect intern at a prestigious Chicago firm, she's proven to be a hard worker and is proud of her accomplishments. In three years, she’ll be a fully licensed architect which is more important to her than anything else.

Confirmed bachelor Nicholas Grey is more than the playboy perpetrated by the tabloids. Now his position as CEO of the architecture firm Grey & Company is on the line, and his mother’s interference is making things more difficult. Nick’s committed to his work, but, in order to be taken seriously, he needs to land a huge project. A stable personal life will help guarantee the contract.

Fairy Godmother Faye Delmore hears Nick’s plea and steps in to help. Posing as a publicist, she suggests a strategy to polish his public image, which includes convincing Beth to play his wife. Faye knows Nick needs the huge project to save his job, but she also knows he needs Beth in his life.

What happens when you add a fairy godmother who loves playing matchmaker into the equation? A future designed by destiny.

 Review

Designed by Destiny is a fast-paced romance with a dash of magical realism! This is a genre mix I don’t see very often, so I was excited to dive into the classic fake relationship storyline with an all new twist: a fairy godmother. I did enjoy that we got a dual-POV as I really love seeing both love interests perspective on the relationship, but it did take a while to get used to this style where we see both perspectives on the same events back to back. In most dual-POVs I’ve read, the perspectives don’t usually overlap like that. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just a matter of preference. While I love a fast read, I do wish this one had been a little longer and taken more time to build tension. The premise and writing are strong, so I would have been happy to spend much more time in this story. The romance itself was pretty straightforward with lots of tropes I love to read like fake relationship and CEO/rich love interest that was easy to read in one sitting. However, this is low spice read for any romance readers expecting otherwise. While the magical realism aspect was mostly a side plot in this story, I’m intrigued to see where the author takes it and hope it becomes expanded on in the future!
