Inhuman Acts
Publication Date: September 29th, 2022
Genre: Thriller
Publisher: Black Rose Writing
A deadly, incurable disease creeps silent through Chattanooga. And its victims aren’t random.
When inexplicable human rabies cases appear in Tennessee, disease ecologist Letty Duquesne jumps at the chance to trace the virus back to its source. But the closer Letty gets to finding the outbreak’s origin, the further someone will go to stop her.
With an unwanted promotion threatening to take Letty far from the fieldwork she loves, this outbreak feels like her last chance to make a difference. It’s not something she can ignore, especially now. The spillover of zoonotic diseases to the human population is on the rise and violent animal attacks-like the one that killed her sister-are becoming all too common.
Something in nature has gone very wrong.
Local authorities would rather she go home, but Letty can track a source animal like no one else. With the help of disgraced detective Andrew Marsh, Letty follows the virus’s epidemiological trail. But her every move is watched. And the source animal is closer than she thinks.

My Review
🍂 crime thriller with a disease ecologist as our main sleuth
🦠 a human rabies outbreak in Tennessee that no one seems to be addressing
🔍 something in nature has gone very wrong
👀 a multi-pov story with realistic characters
I really enjoyed this one! It had me reading into the late hours of the night. There were multiple interconnecting plot narratives that I think the author did a great job weaving together in the end. I really liked our MC, Letty, and I loved learning about her field of work. She took matters into her own capable hands regarding the investigation. Another thing I admired was the author's ability to explain a lot of technical information about epidemiology and ecology (etc.) throughout the novel without confusing me or making me bored. There was so much tension and unease that built at an even pace from the very opening chapter. I have never read another thriller with such a unique plot that doesn't fit the usual overdone small-town murder trope like this one. The author has a very descriptive writing style that really puts the reader into the story. I was able to predict some of the main plot twist but I still felt satisfied with the ending and the other unexpected turns Inhuman Acts took.
★★★★☆
