In the quaint town of Nightfall, Oregon, it isn’t the dark you should be afraid of—it’s the girls. The Lost Boys meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer in this propulsive novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Treatment.
Theo and her brother, Marco, threw the biggest party of the year. And got caught. Their punishment? Leave Arizona to spend the summer with their grandmother in the rainy beachside town of Nightfall, Oregon—population 846 souls.
The small town is cute, when it’s not raining, but their grandmother is superstitious and strangely antisocial. Upon their arrival she lays out the one house rule: always be home before dark. But Theo and Marco are determined to make the most of their summer, and on their first day they meet the enigmatic Minnow and her friends. Beautiful and charismatic, the girls have a magnetic pull that Theo and her brother can’t resist.
But Minnow and her friends are far from what they appear.
And that one rule? Theo quickly realizes she should have listened to her grandmother. Because after dark, something emerges in Nightfall. And it doesn’t plan to let her leave.

REVIEW In Nightfall is a story that sucks you right in. After throwing a party that got way out of hand, Theo and her brother, Marco, are forced to leave their home to spend the summer with their grandmother in a small coastal town called Nightfall. Still dealing with the tension and pain of her parents divorce, Theo hasn't spoken to her mother in weeks either. As soon as she arrives in Nightfall, she realizes the town is strange and different than she ever imagined. First, there is her eccentric, superstitious grandmother, who wants Theo and Marco home before dark. Then, there are the almost too beautiful locals, and the empty streets after dark. Both of them feel an unnatural magnetic pool to the beautiful girls, who may be more dangerous than they thought.
What I liked:
In Nightfall was addictive and easy to devour. I was very intrigued by the plot and it easily kept me captivated. I loved the nostalgic supernatural vibes as we entered the strange small town setting. The author created a perfect set up, described the traditions, the eerie superstitions, and the weird happenings. I also thought it was refreshing to have a brother-sister dynamic that was not the typical unfriendly sibling rivals. Theo and Marco are best friends and I loved their banter and bond. I also liked Nonna's character even if she could be harsh, I think she added some humor to the story in unexpected ways. Overall, I found the plot fast and fun and nothing too serious. There were some great campy moments!
What I didn't love:
Everything about the way this book has been marketed screams vampires and yet the book tried to keep it a mystery way too long. Instead of creating a tense build up, the reveal fell flat and left the main character seeming unrealistic in her reaction. This made the pacing seem either too slow or rushed at different parts. I felt no real connection to the podcaster friends. I felt like it was weird that they just met this random girl at a party and within a few sentences were inviting her over for lunch too. I felt no real stakes for them. For me, a lot of things were easy to predict and I guessed the big twist too. in that way, I still had a lot of fun reading the story but I wish there had been a little more.
