REVIEW: Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce

🇬🇧REVIEW: Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce ☕️

What it’s about:
Ellie is publicly rejected by her crush in the most mortifying way, complete with a viral internet video and everything. She jumps at the chance to study abroad in England and far away from her humiliation. The program is dominated by honors students, which Ellie is not, however she is willing to take on the extra work for the chance to explore the places of her dreams and hopefully meet a new British boy to put her old crush to shame. Ellie meets Will, perfect and posh, and she vows to keep him interested in her. She makes a deal with her classmate Dev, who knows a lot about Will’s interests, to tutor her in exchange for helping him gain her own roommates attention. Ellie is whisked into an abroad romance of her dreams, surrounded by beautiful cities and history, but is that really solving her problems? And is the perfect British boyfriend really perfect for her?

My review:
This one had a slow start for me. I was sure I would be giving this a 3 star review, but the last half ended up boosting it up some for me. I thought the writing came across more juvenile than the intended age, almost reading like an advanced middle grade. However, there is no doubt that this was an extremely cute book with a fun abroad plot! Will was somehow perfect and nice while also being the worst, his character was so conflicting, so that was executed well. I wanted to scream at Ellie to drop him so maybe times. I was glad that Ellie’s personality developed into more than her boy obsession too. I loved her found friendships and it was especially fun to see them bond and all come out of their shells in different ways. My favorite part was definitely the traveling aspects of the story! This story also had a really strong, satisfying ending and my only issue was the climaxing realization was slightly drawn out. Dev was so cute and I loved their chemistry. Overall this was a fluffy light romance with a fun setting! It has good messages about being yourself and never taking things too seriously, and it was a good pick-me-up!
RATING: 3.5/5
