Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass #2) by Sarah J. Maas
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy
Pages: 420

Rating:
From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena's world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie... and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

I loved the first book in the series, Throne of Glass, and if you have read it and even liked it a little bit you will love this one! It gets better and better for a powerful ending. This book contains amazing descriptions that bring the story to life. Celaena is a real badass and such a strong heroine. I love all the characters and plot twists.

Celaena Sardothien is now Adarlan's Assassin and the Kings Champion. We learned all about her sneaky nature and amazing fighting skills in book one, but this is a new level! When she sets her mind to something you better run. She can transform into something so incredible and almost scary that not even her friends recognize her during her badass moments. That's the only way to describe it: badass. Everything changes in Crown of Midnight. No more sophisticated-dress wearing girl who can fight. We get the deep, real Celaena (almost).

This book was a million times better than the first book which I already loved. There are 10x more butt-kicking, action packed, heart wrenching, and hilarius scenes. Crown of Midnight is filled with personable and snarky character who you have to fall in love with,

Like I said, Celaena goes through a major change from the first installment.

"Her lovely dresses and ornate clothes were gone, replaced with an unforgiving, close-cut black tunic and pants. Her hair pulled back in a long braid that fell into the folds of that dark cloak she was always wearing. She was a beautiful wrath …"
As a result of winning the kings contest, she no longer has to hide the true power of her skills. She doesn't take control of her thoughts and actions as she did in the salt mine, causing her not only joy and love but horrific pain and loss. The novel is full of clues and background knowledge of her past.

The romance is blended into the story while still not taking it over. Chaol seems to have one her heart. I myself am a diehard member of team Dorian.

But, I still really enjoyed reading from Chaols POV, and getting to know him more as TOG was more focused on Dorian. We see how much Chaol really cares about Celaena when shes away on mission with his ulcer-forming worry.

Dorian played an important role in the story as a true friend. He was there for her when all her allies seemed to betray her. In TOG, Celaena seemed to care more for herself than anyone else. Her new bonds show us how much she will risk for the ones she loves. I really like how both Dorian and Chaol stick together in trying to save Celaena from everything, even herself.

      #PlotTwistsEverywhere

As we get closer to the end, we strap onto a roller coaster full of loops, spins, and twists. The story unfolds into something I never even guessed, I am so in love with this series. It is so captivating and once its hooked latch on you wont be free until the very last word. Highkey recommend!

XO, Mal!
